Dear Mom, I'm trying to be strong and not cry anymore because you always told me not to cry when you pass, but I cannot help it as losing my mom(whom i later figured out is my best friend) is the worst thing i could feel. to have just one more hug from you would feel so wonderful. i am proud of all you did for me as a child because you taught me to be the person i am today. strong, caring, loving, forgiving and so much more. i know you are no longer in pain nor suffering, which makes me happy, but i miss having you near me to talk, to laugh, to joke, and to remember good times with. you are a wonderful mother to all three of us children..i am very thankful to you mom, because with out you i would never have been here.i love you and will see you again.

Hauula cries for you and so do all your friends and loved ones. We know we will see you again but for now your memory will live on forever in our hearts. We love you May.....

I live around the corner from the Horridge family home in Lomita. In fact my mom use to work at Torrance Tubing with Mr Horridge, many years back. I am friends with Deborah, one of Ferns daughters. And that is how I came to know Fern. During one of my many visits, I had accidently picked up Ferns purse instead of my own, as they both were very similar. I noticed before I had gotten to far. So I quickly, switched it for my own. I thought that Fern had not noticed. So I thought I had escaped embarrassment and having to explain why I had grabbed her bag. So I just chuckled and decided to keep it to myself. Several weeks had passed and I was visting the Horridge home again. But this time I had brought my new red handbag to show off to my friends. It started getting late and Fern and Denny began to say their "good-byes" And Mrs. Horridge walked over to where my purse was, flung it on her arm and started heading out the door. I had forgotten all about the prior incident with her bag, thinking I was the only one who knew it had taken place. When I went to stop her in a panic, She laughed and laughed And said "I think I like this one better" And everyone else was laughing also. Thats when I realized I wasnt keeping any secrets from Fern.,

As one of Sonoko's roommates at BYU-Provo, my thoughts are filled with her. Reading the obituary just reiterated what a special person she was. As the BYU "gang" had our luncheons, we would have a special luncheon when she came into town just so we could visit with her. Really, really miss her but will see her again someday (if I go where she is). May the Lord bless your family with peace and comfort.

Don and Paulette Winbolt posted on 12/7/11

We will miss the list Uncle Rex used to hand Don when we'd visit and all the wonderful stories. And he never failed to tell us great places to take him to eat. One of the most fun places was in Long Beach and we enjoyed eating and watching the boats, beside the italian place, mexican & Tony Roma's and can't forget Claim Jumpers. What fun he was. We loved him and will miss him. The Eakins were wonderful to him and he never failed to tell me a Bob story when I talked with him.

Billy's obituary was sent to me by Karen Liebig.I was very shocked, he was way too young. I worked with Billy at Redondo Beach Post Office with him from 1977 - 1984, he and his entire family were great friends to me and my children. We had some great laughs at the RBPO which I will never forget. I will surely miss him and extend my sincerest sympathies to his family. Please respond at 760 243 7682

Uncle Jack Kerber will always be in my heart. He was a caring, compassionate and happy person who lived life to the fullest! Even though many miles separated us throughout my adult life, I so much enjoyed visiting Uncle Jack and Aunt Viola in Minnesota and later in California. After Aunt Viola passed on Uncle Jack found the second love of his life and I very much enjoyed stopping by Temecula and having lunch or just chatting with him and Joan. They enjoyed their life together, both relaxing at home and exploring new places in their motorhome. Uncle Jack dearly loved his daughters, his grandkids and his great-grandson Lennox and enjoyed visiting his family. He will be deeply missed by many!

It's now going on 5 years of your passing. It still feels like yesterday. I have good days and I have bad days still. There have been days you are in my dreams, I take that as a visit from you. I love you mom! I miss you with all my heart. Not a day goes by that I wish I could hug you tight. Koa is doing well. He's 17 now and I believe you would be so proud of him as a young man. You would like his friends too. Gabi is now 15 and you would enjoy laughing with her. She's liking boys now. Jewel is now 11 and just started her first year of middle school. She wants to be an author. Ethan is now 8 and I wish you got to know him so much better. He has some memories of you but not much. I talk to him about you all the time though. I cannot wait for the day I can see you again and hug you as tight as possible!

What an amazing woman. Jim and I can see her smile when we remember Sharon. Her great laugh and sense of humor. Sharon could always bring a smile to my face when I was feeling down. She had that great quality of being caring and thoughful. Always went out of her way to try to make things better for all of us. We were very lucky to have her and Jerry present when our youngest child was born. What a great moment to share with wonderful people. All the great times of playing cards and having dinners together. All the laughs we shared about such silly things. Those are the memories we will cherish always. When Maureen would come to Cali to visit she made it a point to visit with Sharon and Jerry. She thought the world of the both of you.~~Jerry know you are in our thoughts and prayers. We think of you often and even though we are far away we would do anything for you. We love you very much. Think positive and know that you both will be together one day.

There is no one in my family that I have known longer than Sonoko. Some of my earliest memories are of times spent with Sonoko when we both lived in Hawaii. More recent memories are also well recounted, as I visited her in her home in Gardena, and she in mine in Vermont, London and North Carolina. Being with Sonoko always brought with it a sense of family and a sense of place, and while I can still hear her voice and her laughter, I will deeply miss her presence. Darryl

I was informed by my brother Danny last Saturday night that Dana Proudfoot had been killed in a one car rollover on his way to his desert cabin Friday morning November 11th. The news was unbelievable as Dana was a dear childhood and lifelong friend. A year ago Kristi and I had a wonderful dinner and evening with Dana and Ana on their visit to Salt Lake. It was a pleasure to catch up on our lives. It was always so easy for Dana and me to talk of the trials and joys of life even if it was a couple of years between visits. He has been a true lifelong friend, even through adulthood. My memories of Dana, his parents Milli and Ward, Rob and Rick, and our friends from school, church and Espinoza Circle have not ceased this past week. Dana was a wonderful part of all of our lives. The gatherings at the Proudfoot home, kneeboard races down Landetta, Stake Church Dances, singing in the Accapella choir at Palos Verdes High, etc. He certainly added spice whenever he was around. I will always remember that the outdoors was where many of our memories began. Many of us enjoyed weeklong hikes in the Sierras, even one in the Uintah Mountains in Utah (with the Golding’s) and the overnighters in the local LA Mountains with his dad, brothers and friends of Troop 134.

My favorite memory of Grandma Hino was when she and Grandpa took David and I out for a Japanese lunch. I said I would try anything except raw fish and we talked about what each thing was for awhile and then I ordered. When it came it was all raw fish! Grandma Hino took one look and made the waiter take it all back and bring me something that she picked! It was a lovely outing and a special memory.

I’m sorry I didn’t call you the first time my email was returned because I know you always read them especially the ones about our classmates and what they were up to. I will notify our classmates of your passing and I am sure they will be saddened just as I was. I know you and Odie are in a better place with no pain or suffering looking down upon your children, grandchildren and family. How can we forget the bear ripping open Milli’s powder blue Mercury convertible looking for food at Kings Canyon the night before the Ray Lakes loop hike. The Surfing at Rat Beach and the Cove became a passion. In my mind’s eye I can still see Dana with his long arms and puffed cheeks with every breath paddling over or into a wave. I will never forget our Explorer Post trip to Lake Shasta and Dana water skiing past the houseboat as close as he dared on Owen Minnick’s boat while waving and holding on with one hand. Also a road trip that maybe only Dana and I remember was from LA to Utah to New Orleans. I will never forget getting stuck to the axles 3 times in the white Ford Bronco. After my mission and before his, it was the trip of the ages for us as I was blessed to sail to Hawaii with the Proudfoots and Kris Weideman. There are so many memories from that trip there is no room here to write them, but only to say that I cherish the blessing it was to have gone and to come to know the Proudfoots and Kris as the best of friends.

Jody, Brenda and I would like to extend our deepest condolences in this time of deep sorrow for you. I will miss Glen very much, he made my job easier whenever I worked his field, and he was a strait shooter which I respected so much about him. We'll all miss him.

Derin, my Sweet Nephew...I will always remember everything about you. My most precious moment was when you asked me if I knew what June 9th is. You were all of five years old, and had the most serious look I have ever seen on a child's face. I said, "What's June 9th, Derin?" You said so excitedly, "It's Mom's Birthday! And I'm gonna give her a balloon! I thought, this boy really loves his mother very much. A special bond made in Heaven.

Margaret was a remarkable woman and Bob and I counted it a privelege to know her and associate with her and count her and her dear husband as our friends. Margaret had great faith and was a wonderful example to those of us who were new to the gospel. Her quiet, gentle ways endeared her to us. Her sense of humor brought smiles to our faces and her eyes would sparkle when she would tease us or relate some funny story. Over the years she taught countless lessons in Sunday School, Relief Society and by her tireless examples of compassion and service. Her lessons were well prepared and meaningful and it was obvious she had spent time in deciding what it was we needed to hear. One day she and Ted brought over part of a bag of oranges they had purchased at the farmers market. We live across town from them and they could have taken their bounty to their neighbors but they chose to visit us. Just a small example of her graciousness and generousity. Our hearts go out to her dear family with love and compassion. May you feel your Saviors comforting arms around you as you mourn the parting of your dear Margaret. Love, Bob and Marlene Lee

I was blessed to have had a 29yr friendship with Mike. My prayers and thoughts are with his children and family. I am so grateful that he wanted me around during his final days. We cried and we laughed together, even on his last day with us. I have so many memories but the most recent memory that makes me smile is him whispering me to smuggle him in a snickers bar! Every time I see and snickers I will remember how happy he was when I would give them to him.
