William Miller also known as “Bill the Handyman” went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 27, 2009. Bill was born on March 27, 1929 in Belleville, Illinois. Bill arrived in Perris California in 1948 and resided in the South Bay for 60 years. His first job in Perris was working in the potato farms. Later, he became a journyman mechanist. Through the years, he worked for Fan-Steel, Cal-Metal, and Appliance Wheel. He wanted to be his own boss, so he started his handyman business. “Bill the Handyman” worked the South Bay for 28 years. Bill served in the Knights of Columbus in the 50’s and 60’s. He was extremely involved in the Lomita Elementary PTA in the 70’s and received the Honorary Service Award for outstanding service for both Lomita Elementary and the Lomita San Pedro PTA Counsel. Bill was a member of the San Pedro Elks Club and served as the Lapsation Chairman. He was President of the Redondo Beach Kiwanis for two years and the Lomita-Harbor City Kiwanis for one year. Bill received the Kiwanian of the Year Award numerous times. He worked effortlessly to help form new Kiwanis clubs and served as the Kiwanis Advisor for the Redondo Union and San Pedro High School Key Clubs. Also, Bill served on Mayor Brady’s Anti-Drug Program for many years. Through the years, he was dedicated in serving at Saint James Catholic Church, Community Bible Church, and Kings Way Community Church. Bill was survived by his soulmate and wife of 47 years, Shirley; his loving daughter, Salomay Corbaley (Doug); grandchildren, Elizabeth and Gregory Dyer; mother-in-law, Sally Gedminas, brother-in-law, Richard Gedminas (Hanna), sister-in-laws, Eva and Anita Gedminas, nephews, Francis (Kara), Roger (Melanie), Evan, Bruce, and Austin Gedminas; nieces, Audrey, Debbie, and Alexandra Gedminas; and grandnephews and nieces. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 8, 2009 at 10:45 a.m. at Kings Way Community Church in Lomita. The address is 1748-251st Street, Lomita. The family would like to thank Dr. Joel Ringold and Dr. Eric Milefchik of Torrance for their wonderful and heartfelt care. The family would also like to thank Pastor Nori Hanaoka, the congregation of Kings Way Community Church, and friends for their prayers and support during this trying time.
