Ruth was born and raised in Iowa by her parents Phil & Ona Kriese, along with her nine brothers and sisters. Ruth followed in the footsteps of her older sisters and became a nurse, of which she was always very proud. She married the love of her life, Bernhard Stensvaag, on April 10, 1939, and in 1941 gave birth to their only child, John. Ruth, Bernard, John and their friends and family were avid travelers, trailering across most of the United States. The Stensvaag family move to California for Bernard’s job with Boeing. Upon his retirement they moved to beautiful Sedona, Arizona, closer to many of Ruth’s relatives. When Pappy passed away in 1990, it was an enourmous loss. But, Ruth, with enduring tenacity, was determined to carry on. Ruth moved back to California to be nearer John and his family. It was here that she changed her mode of exploration from camping to cruising with family and friends, who together took many trips all over the world. Ruth lived life to the fullest. She insisted on living independently, and did so very successful up to the very end. Ruth’s passing was preceded by her husband Bernard, her son John, and eight brothers and sisters. She leaves behind her sister Willa Mae, her cousin Marguerite, her niece Jean, her daughter-in-law Suzie, her granddaughter Carie and husband Joseph, great-grandchildren Carili, Jake and Maddy, and many neices and nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, and may friends who loved her dearly. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 8th at 2p.m., to celebrate Ruth’s life. All are welcome to join us at Trinity Lutheran Church, 4783 Wesst 130th Street, just off Inglewood Avenue, in Hawthorne.
