Robert Francis Murphy – Dad, passed away the morning of January 10, 2011 at his home in Lomita, CA. just three days shy of his 76th birthday. Robert was born January 13, 1935 in Chicago, IL to Charles and Anna Murphy. The youngest of seven, Bob was always emulating his older brothers and was very involved in car racing on the old dirt tracks around Chicago, he was always working on or modifying a car or truck or out hunting in the fields and woods of Illinois and Wisconsin. Robert was well looked after by his older sisters and had a very special relationship with his sister Lillian who preceded him in death June 25, 2009 in Chicago. Murph was married to Rosemarie Jalloway from 1956 until 1974 and had three children, Jim, Don and Lynn. After a short stay in Wisconsin the Murphy’s packed up the Buick and headed to California in the summer of 1970. Murph opened up and owned for many years his welding and sheet metal business, Fusion Engineering, in Hawthorne, CA. Bob spent many years as head of Facilities at St Francis Church and Peninsula Heritage School on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. During his retirement Murphy was a regular and could always be found at Gino’s Pastry Shop before its closing. After that, meeting each morning at many different locations throughout Redondo and the South Bay before settling on his regular morning stop at Carissimos Bakery on Catalina Ave in Redondo Beach where he had many wonderful friends. Robert F. Murphy, Dad, Grandpa, Uncle and Friend is survived by his sons, James Patrick Murphy (Paula) of Lomita, Donald Murphy (Robin) of Torrance, Daughter, Lynn Marie Finzel of Brea, CA. , grandchildren, Ryan Murphy, Lauren Leone (Michael) , Jessica Murphy, Brinlee Finzel, Ty Taylor and Luke (Tiffany) Taylor, many nieces, nephews and very good friends Ian and Anne Bisco. We would like to thank his many friends known as the coffee club with special thanks to Gigi, Marty, Barbara and Linda. Funeral services will be held on Saturday January 15, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at Gamby Funeral Home 25001 Narbonne Avenue Lomita, CA 90717 with internment to follow later this year at Saint Mary Cemetery Evergreen Park, Illinois where he will be interned with his parents and other family members. In Lieu of flowers the Family requests that donations be made in Roberts name to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at www.pancan.org.
