Rex Issac Beezley was born July 25, 1917 in Silgo Missouri. In 1941 he married his partner for lifeVelma J. Beezley and they remained married for over 60 years until her passing in 2010. Rex served in the US Navy during WWII from September 1941 to June 1945. He served aboard the USS Baltimore. His Cruiser was involved in many conflicts, some are: Fire support and covering forces at Makin Islands landing Kwajalein Invasion, Truk Raid, and Eniwetok Seizure Then fire support in the Marianas, Wolesi raids, stirks against Marcusn Islands, and Wake Island May 23rd, the Saipan invasion, and the Battle of the Philippine Sea. Returning to the ship to United States in July 1944 they embarked President Franklin D. Roosevelt and his party to Pearl Harbor. After meeting with Admiral Chester Nimitz and General Douglas MacArthur, the President was carried to Alaska where he departed. The ship returned to the war zone in November 1944, assigned to the 3rd Fleet and participated in the attacks on Luzon, Formosa, the China Coast, and Okinawa. Then joining the 5th Fleet for the Honshu attacks, Iwo Jima Operation, and again Okinawa. In 1945 Rex returned to Oakland California for a short time then moving to Torrance, CA. He became employed by Texaco Refining and Marketing for the next 34 years and retired as the plant Fire Marshal in 1980. He will be fondly remembered by friends, nieces, nephews, and neighbors. Services will be held at A.M. Gamby Funeral Home, 25001 Narbonne Ave, Lomita, Ca. December 10th at 11am. Following services Interment will be at Green Hills Cemetery.
