Martha Louise Dearborn. February 1927 – May 2009. Resident of Torrance. After complications from a stroke, Martha passed away peacefully at Torrance Memorial Hospital. Martha was born at home in nearby Wilmington, raised in Lomita, and graduated from Narbonne High School. Martha lived in the Torrance/Lomita area her whole life as a devoted wife and mother and devout Christian. For many years she was very active in her community and taught Sunday school at Narbonne Avenue Baptist Church. Martha was one of four children born to the late Benjamin and Mildred Swaffar and was the beloved wife of Robert Dearborn for 54 years. Martha and Robert first met in the second grade and later dated and married in the early 1950’s. Martha will be forever loved and remembered by her sister Lois Ihde, her children Donald Dearborn, Diane Richardson, and Darryl Dearborn, her treasured grandchildren Patrick, Catherine , Crystal, Alyssa, Emily, and Henry, her son in-law Rick, daughters in-law Maggie and Julie, and her many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and other friends and family who were blessed to know her. Martha lived a Christian life. She was an active church member and touched many lives with her teaching and her generous nature. As a loving and caring mother, she was a role model for her children, always busy in their school, church, and summer activities. She enjoyed playing hymns on her piano at home, sewing, working on crafts, and compiling an extensive family genealogy. A great believer in the value and enjoyment of reading, Martha was always in a book and encouraging family and friends to read. Martha loved the outdoors, always taking her kids and their friends out for a day at the beach with her big green beach umbrella and a picnic basket with lunch. She also loved the mountains and the long summer family camping trips to Shaver Lake in the Sierras with her family. She was a devoted and loving grandmother whose grandchildren were the light of her life.
