Margaret Teresa Walker entered eternal life on August 2, 2016 after a brief illness. A Peninsula resident since 1957, she was born to Albert and Emma Mueller in Van Nuys on May 5, 1930. Margaret graduated from Corvallis High School and the University of California, Santa Barbara with a bachelor’s degree in home economics. She was united in marriage to Duncan Walker in 1955. Together they were founding members of St. John Fisher Catholic Parish, where she served as guild captain. Her love for art led her to become a volunteer art teacher at St. John Fisher School, and she made banners that enhanced the church for years. She passed on this love of art to their five children: Hank (Mary) of College Station, Texas; Duffy, Scott and Michael of Rancho Palos Verdes; and Molly (Michael) of Elk Grove. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Caleb, Carly, and Chad Smith; and Anna and Michael Walker. After her children got older, Margaret was employed as the office manager for Bikor Corporation and Quinlan & Associates. Margaret’s love for education and her community led her to volunteer with the Palos Verdes Hills Nursery School and serve as the Director of the PV Peninsula Directory, the main fundraiser for the school. She continued her fundraising work with the Palos Verdes Art Center, participating in Art for Fun(d)’s Sake, as well as enjoying the “old-time” movies often held there. She was president of the National Alliance on Mental Illness South Bay (NAMI), a grassroots organization dedicated to building better lives for those affected by mental illness. In her later years, Margaret was active in her parish’s Senior Connection. She was preceded in death by her husband, Duncan, and brother, Al Mueller. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John Fisher Catholic Church in Rancho Palos Verdes on Friday, August 12 11:00 AM. Interment will be in Green Hills Memorial Park.
