Lorraine Gertrude Hohn passed from this world on August 23, 2014 at her home in Torrance, CA, surrounded by her loving family.

Lorraine was born on January 25, 1923 in Onaka, South Dakota to Leo and Dora Krzyzopolski, one of 11 children. She grew up amid the poverty of the Great Depression, but fondly remembered summers spent at her Aunt Emma and Uncle Georgeís nearby farm, where there were always lots of chores but plenty to eat.

In 1942, she moved to Burbank, CA at the urging of Charles (ìChuckî) Shelton Hohn, who was to become her loving husband of 68 years. They were married that year in Las Vegas, and lived in Burbank, eventually settling in Torrance where they raised their seven children.

Lorraine was an adventurous soul who loved to travel with her husband Chuck, visiting China, Europe, Belize, Mexico, Canada and all 50 states.

She had a colorful and irrepressible sense of humor, enjoying all manner of practical jokes. Lorraine loved parties and family gatherings, was sometimes accused of cheating at cards, and enjoyed the occasional shot of tequila.

She also loved gardening, scrapbooking and crafting, and was an excellent bridge player.

Lorraine was gifted with uncommon physical strength and vigor. She climbed the Great Wall of China, re-roofed the family cabin, and astounded her grandchildren by executing a set of 8 pull-ups, all while in her 80ís. This vitality allowed her to dart about the country, assisting a sick child or helping with sundry projects, up until the last year of her life.

Lorraineís real pride and joy in life were her husband and family. Family gatherings were typically attended by dozens of people, where she was in her element surrounded by raucous laughter and the joyful sounds of children playing underfoot.

Lorraine is survived by her children, Margot (Norris) Rudon, Lake Forest; Ginger Hohn, Lomita; Charles (Sherry) Hohn Jr, Torrance; Eileen (Bill) Gilles, Glastonbury, CT; Jean (Lisa Rakow) Hohn, Loveland, CO; John (Margaret) Hohn, Santa Cruz, CA, by 18 grandchildren and 26 (and counting) great grandchildren, by her sisters, Patricia and Ramona, and her brothers Fr. Aloysius and Eugene. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Shelton Hohn, Sr. and her son, Michael Carl Hohn Sr. of San Diego.

Lorraine will be best remembered for the tremendously unselfish love and care she gave to all of us, throughout all her days. Her beautiful spirit lives on in our love for one another.

Visitation is at A.M. Gamby Funeral Home, 25001 Narbonne Ave., Lomita, from 4 to 8 pm on Friday, August 29, with a Vigil service at 7pm, also at the funeral home.
