Leonard passed away peacefully on December 18, 2010 in Harbor City, California. He was a 56-year resident of the South Bay. Born May 24, 1935 in Wellington, Texas, upon graduating from high school he joined the U.S. Marine Corps. Soon after, he found himself policing the armistice in South Korea. After military service, he returned to the Los Angeles area where he met and married Darlene Crowder in March of 1958. In 1963, after attending college, he joined the Los Angeles City Fire Department. He retired as an Engineer form the Fire Service in 1993. During those thirty years he responded to numerous fires, rescues, and riots. In retirement he enjoyed travel with Darlene and activities with family and grandkids. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, and spectator sports. Leonard is survived by his wife of 52 years Darlene Simpson, son Scott Simpson, daughter-in-law Glenda Simpson (Price), grandchildren Sarah and Matthew Simpson, sisters Virginia Arteche, Barbara Fry, Betty Matting; and many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held at A.M. Gamby Funeral Home in Lomita, California on December 27, 2010 at 9:00 AM, with services at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Green Hills Memorial Park, Rancho Palos Verdes, California.
