Karen Petty, loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully on August 24, 2013 at her home in Torrance, California, at the age of 56 after a long and courageous battle with GI cancer. Proud of her Scottish ancestry, Karen was born to Anthony and Beverly Hecht in Harbor City, California on June 25, 1957.
Raised in the South Bay, Karen remained active in the community after graduating from South Torrance High School and later attending business school. She was employed by Cado Systems in Torrance and Mattel, Inc. in El Segundo. Her true love, however, was working with children. She was employed by the Torrance Unified School District as a para educator and taught confirmation classes at St Margaret Mary Catholic Parish in Lomita, California. Karen remained vigorously active as a volunteer, as her loving heart touched not only her church community, but every facet of her childrenís school and athletic communities, as well. She supported her three children in multiple club sports and school functions from grammar school through Torrance High School, Bishop Montgomery High School , and Loyola High School. After being diagnosed with cancer, Karen was a dedicated participant and fundraiser in the Annual Revlon Run Walk, completing the event for several years.
Loving, kind, silly and funny, Karen will be greatly missed. She is predeceased by her father, Anthony McEwan Hecht (1991). She is survived by her husband, Daniel Petty, sons Cameron Walter, Colton Petty, and daughter Jennah Petty. Parents Charles Dupree (stepfather) and Beverly Dupree, Sisters Kathy (Colin) Thompson, Kelly Hecht, and brother Kevin(Evelyn) Dupree along with many loving nieces and nephews.
