Joseph James Aki, Jr., age 77, passed away on March 3, 2012. Born Kapaa-side, Kauai and raised Wailua Beach. Attended Kapaa Elementary, St. Louis High and UH Manoa. Served in the Marine Corps out of Pendleton and 29 Palms. Joe is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rose; daughters Leilani Goeppner, Jane Bateman, Cathy Stauber and Patti Harris; son Joseph James Aki III; brothers Steven and Gerard Aki and Joseph and Steven Kalilikane; sisters Catherine, Lei, Margaret, Tessie and Mary; 15 grandchildren; one great- grandchild and many loving nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Lucy Aki; mother, Mikala Lahilahi Jane Kato Aki; father, Joseph James Aki, Sr.; and brothers, Morris and Christopher. Papa loved good food, good friends and making music. We love you and miss you, Grandpa Joe! Viewing will be at AM Gamby Funeral Home Thursday, March 8, from 4 pm to 8 pm. Funeral Mass Friday, 10 am at St. Margaret Mary Church, Lomita, California. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Culver City, California. Aloha attire.
