John (Jack) Francis Kerber 83, died Monday, February 6, 2012 at the Rancho Springs Medical Center in Murrieta, CA. Born on October 26, 1928 in Torrance, CA, the son of John and Ruth (Torbert) Kerber, Jack was raised in Lomita and spent much of his life there. Jack married Viola Norgren in 1952 and raised two daughters, Karen and Jill. Jack was trained as a sheet metal worker and was a lifelong union member. After retiring at a young age, Jack and Viola moved to Grand Marais, MN in 1983 and built a large home on the shores of Lake Superior. They later turned their home into the very successful Superior Overlook Bed and Breakfast. Jack was an outstanding chef and specialized in serving the guests Ebelskivers, a Scandinavian pancake. He also was very inventive and had several patents. In 2001 Jack and Viola moved back to California and, after 51 years of marriage, Viola became ill and passed on. After a period of grieving, Jack was blessed to find the second love of his life, Joan Stowell. They lived in Temecula and Joan made Jack’s remaining ten years some of the happiest of his life. Jack leaves his life partner Joan, his brother Robert, daughters, Karen and Jill, grandchildren Chaz (Jenny), Kirk and Robyn, great-grandson Lennox, nephews Patrick and Richard, niece Judith and many close friends. A memorial service will be held at A. M. Gamby Funeral Home in Lomita on Sunday, February 12th, at 1 p.m.
