James “Jim” Russell Baldwin was born in Lebanon, Indiana on October 2, 1928. His parents were Raymond Allen Baldwin and Myrtle Esther Dale, and together, had 8 children. Jim was the 7th child. He had 3 brothers and 4 sisters.

Jim joined the U.S. Navy in 1947 and served six years on the USS Vogelgesang DD-862 and two years on the USS Tarawa CV-40. Jim served 8 years in the Navy and traveled the world. He visited China, Cuba, Beirut and Syria. He was awarded the National Defense Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal with Europe clasp and the China Service Medal.

After the Navy, Jim returned home to Lebanon, Indiana and then relocated to Los Angeles to be near his brothers Edward and Robert. On April 10, 1971 he married Rose M. Clum and although he had no children, he treated his nieces and nephews as his own. Jim worked for Anchor Packing in Carson, California and later retired.

He enjoyed taking care of his brother Ed’s children and his hobbies were making wind chimes, carving wood and making crafts. He loved attending his church, Kings Way Community, in Lomita, California. Jim thoroughly enjoyed fellowship with his friends. He also loved to speak to his family back east, and would talk for hours about the family. Jim was the last in his generation, and he will be dearly missed.

Per Jim’s wishes he will be buried in the family plot at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon, IN.
