Betty Goldberg died peacefully at her home in Lomita on September 10 after a long battle with cancer. She was not in pain and remained kind, affectionate and thoughtful until the very end writing thank you notes to the Torrance Memorial Hospital staff that cared for her during her last hospitalization. Betty was born in Dallas, Texas on June 19, 1933 to Josephine and Quentin Becket and attended Texas Tech University for two years before finally earning her bachelors degree at Cal State Dominguez many years later. She married Arthur Goldberg of Houston, Texas June 22, 1956 and was living in Fort Worth, Texas when her children Rebecca, Phillip and David were born. The family moved to California where Betty was a residence of Lomita for 42 years. She worked for the City of Lomita as a code enforcement officer for many years and was active in the Lomita Chamber of Commerce and the Rolling Ranchos Residential Association. Betty is survived by her husband of 55 years, Arthur, and her sons, Phillip and David; her daughter, Rebecca, having predeceased her less than a year ago. She also leaves her brother, Bill Becket, of Dallas, Texas and eight loving grandchildren: Christopher, Laura, Polen, Nick, Bill, Kate, Megan and Beth. A memorial service will be held at A.M. Gamby Funeral Home, 25001 Narbonne Avenue in Lomita on Saturday, September 17 at 1:00 p.m. with a gathering at her home at 26402 Via Desmonde, Lomita to follow. In lieu of flower the family asks that gifts be made to the Humane Society as Betty was a great lover of animals.
