Barbara Joan Burnell, was born May 3, 1938, in Winslow, Az. She passed away at her daughterís home in Carson on January 4, 2014, surrounded by her loving family.

Barbara was a resident of Lomita for 42 years and of Los Angeles County from the age of 1.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Burnell; sons, Michael Young and James Shafer. Survived by her brother, John (Nancy) Wilson; sister, Patricia (Richard) Davis; daughters, Donna (Trung) Cox; Kathleen (Jay) Risley; & son Rodney (Veronica). Burnell. Grandchildren; Jayson (Amber), Brandon (Amanda), Michelle, Evan, Andrew (Stephanee), Nicole, Karen, Taylor, Nicholas and Dylan. Great Grandchildren: Tyler, Sierra, Lexie, Claire and Natalie.

Barbara was extremely creative and energetic. She could be found pilfering/pruning her neighbors roses in the wee dark hours of the morning and being at yard sales early on Saturday bargaining and buying treasures for her next creative project or something on her list that someone needed. She loved going to the movies and felt that seeing only one in a day was a waste of time. It was also so much easier to find your car if it wore rabbit ears all year long. She was one of the friendly familiar faces working at the voting/polling place in Lomita for twenty- plus years. She was an active member of the Red Hat Society and was a member of the Los Angeles Conservancy where she loved to volunteer. Throughout her life she was a Tupperware Manager, Creative Memories Consultant, and a wonderfully talented seamstress. Her favorite things to make were Halloween costumes.

Above all, A loving Wife, Mother and Grandmother. She loved her family, The Pink Panther and her cats. Barbara lived life to the fullest with an unlimited capacity for fun.

A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014 from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Call or message (714) 875-5676. Please come even if you can only spend a few minutes to share wonderful memories from this amazing lady.
