In Loving Memory – Arvilla A. Tretter A life time resident of Lomita. Arvilla was born March 7, 1933 to Jacob and Gay Grosskopf at Torrance California. She passed away at home with her family and friends by her side. She graduated from Narbonne High School in the winter of 1951. Arvilla had worked during the summers of 48,49,50 for Movie Director John Ford, taking care of the Ford family kids and grandchildren aboard Ford’s 107 ft Sailboat “ARANER”. She had many picnics and horseback riding at Catalina with John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara. Arvilla was noted for her excellent cooking abilities. Everyone loved her cookies, pies, and especially her decorated cakes. She prepared many a menu for boats racing to Mexico and Honolulu. She loved sailing and boating in general, spending many weeks on the family’s boat moored at the Isthmus on Catalina Island. She was a true adventuress; having traveled to Mexico, Tahiti, Hawaii, Alaska, Canada, Spain, and all of the United States. Her other interests included the Red Hat Ladies and Gardening. Arvilla had been a member of many social clubs in the South Bay. Arvilla is survived by her husband of 59 years, Delbert “Bud” Tretter and her two sons, Jerry (Kathi), Kurt, grandson Jason (Kerri) and two great-grand children Hadley and Holden. Everyone that knew her will always remember her big smile and her good nature. Arvilla will forever live on in the hearts of family and friends. Services will be held at Gamby’s in Lomita on April 25th, 2011 at 10:00 a.m.
